“high fives are a big part of bowling!”

so as you may have heard, we went bowling.

the title of this blog post comes from tony- who not only taught me that it’s NOT the index finger and middle finger that are used when bowling, (middle and ring finger- duh) but also to high-five my teammates after each turn. so tony, (or should i say ant?) this is for you:

Yeah, we pretty much rock at bowling.

Continuation from previous post: Get Your Bowl On!

Well, the much anticipated bowling outing is now over, and we made it through. We staff members made certain demands about the type of establishment we wanted to patronize, and let me tell you, EatonGolden delivered!

• The beer was nearly transparent. Pitchers of Miller Light were a-plenty.

• It did smell. In fact, a little girl who came through the front door even wrinkled her nose and yelled, “It smells like beer!”

I can’t attest to the state of the shoes, but they may have been clean (win some—lose some).

Gritty is an understatement for the charming little dive we found. It appeared that this bowling alley hadn’t received any cosmetic updates since its inception.
Most everything was off-color, except for the bowling balls, which were vibrant shades of ugly.

Upon entering, we were accosted by the large picture of a Wrestle Mania character with the words “Get pinned on the road to Wrestle Mania” written next to him. Mahtab clearly thought this was the best thing ever.

The scoring computers were a throwback from a Buck Rogers episode.

At one point, members of our team were huddled around one, looking perplexed. Emily laughed, “How many interactive professionals does it take to figure out the scoring computer interface?”

None of our aforementioned bowling rules were enforced, and people seemed to actually try to do well, with no irony attached.

These were some of my favorite bowling reactions:

Annette, after a strike: the fist pump

Telari, after a strike: the wink and nod that seemed to say, “Was there ever any doubt?”

Mahtab, after two consecutive gutter balls: the girlie “Oh, no!” with a foot stomp

I couldn’t participate because my back was out. I had previously considered this to be a free pass out of torture (I’m being a tad dramatic), but watching everyone embrace the ugly shoes, ugly bowling balls, and ugly décor, while rejoicing in their bowling triumphs (except for Larisa, who claimed the low score of 47), made me regret that I was relegated to the sidelines. I no loner wanted to point and laugh–I wanted to bowl! Next time, I guess.

We’re a little disappointed in how this thing is testing…
