Microblogging

The microblogging trend is growing every day. What is microblogging you ask?
According to wikipedia microblogging is “… a form of blogging that allows users to write brief text updates (usually less than 200 characters) and publish them, either to be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which can be chosen by the user. These messages can be submitted by a variety of means, including text messaging, instant messaging, email, MP3 or the web.”
Twitter is one of the most popular platforms that is enabling this trend. I’ve sent this video to many people who have asked me, ‘what is Twitter?’ because it is the best explanation I have seen.
Thanks to CommonCraft for putting this explanation together and allowing others to post it on their blogs.

Another resource for using Twitter that I found from the Web Guild:

If you are looking for people to follow, they talked about this web site and the MIMA Social Media Event:

Why? I know it’s interesting, and sometimes these trends draw me in like the gawker slowdown for a car accident, but WHY would one follow another? why would I publish to the universe my comings and going and thoughts? More importantly, what use could our clients have with twittering?

It takes some time to understand. I thought it was silly for the first 6 months I participated, after that I started to see trends and patterns and real conversations began. It’s also very interesting to get an ambient sense of what is going on with the people you ‘follow’. You can learn things about people you wouldn’t necessarily learn another way.
